Girl Power!

So August is coming to an end and what have we learnt from it really? That "we can do it all too"? Yes, I'm going to jump on that Womans Month wagon too, but with a twist. I am all for the empowerment and liberation of women and  very proud to be a young woman living in SA today. Helen Joseph, Bertha Mashaba and the rest of the group of women who marched on that day, 9 August 1956 had a particular purpose in mind: the freedom of women. (SA History) Personally, I think the initial purpose of this day is slowly being a day of women trying to prove the point that they can do what men can do. The picture on the left for example, it is all musculine and manly. Is this what the empowerment of women means? I am not arguing that we cannot do what the opposite sex can when we put our minds to it, but let that not be the feul to our fire, let that not be the reason why we want to be successful and be CEOs in big compaies. Rather let our success be a tesimony of what we are capble of, despite of our history.

The video below shows the brief history of this important day and the women behind it.

  1. women need to be empowered and need to know that yes we are women but we can also do things that men do. educating and creating awereness about women's day is a great thing since it is August women's month

  2. Gone are the times when men were the bosses of everything. Now we do it for ourselves, because we can with or without them.

  3. Dankie Boitshoko. My whole thing is that we must not let our empowerment come from constantly trying to prove a point to men, but rather prove that WE are smart and ambitious enough to want to run companies

  4. "Power to women Power!!!" I really like it when women are hired in big companies, this really shows that we are all equal before the law, even though some small companies to do not employ women.

  6. i so agree... let every individul empower themselves for their own benifit. love yourself enough to see that you worthy of all the finer things in life, not to prove a point. YES WE ARE CAPABLE!

  7. Well that's true hey. Women like: Helen Joseph, Bertha Mashaba and others did contribute a lot to the modern South Africa which we are living in today - infact they have left a legacy. I am impressed with the woman of today, i mean they have outstanding capabilities and they always work hard on what they want to achieve in future. 8. Its very relevant and something that is commonly missed. Women sometimes focus so hard on filling a mans shoes that they forget who they are.

  9. These are the times women and men are treated with equality unlike in the old times when women would be deprived of a lot of things. And men would be regarded as superior. As a young woman im glad to be in these times. Yes i agree with Mandisa, we shouldn't forget ourselves in trying to prove a point

  12. mmmmh nice beauty plus brains i like, and yeah u right about the line that goes likr "let rather our success be a testimony of what we are capable of, despite of our history" you just killed it there, so no pressure to women just take one step at the time then you will be fine eventually.!
